URGENT EMAILS NEEDED- WAXHAW,NC
By Sloane Quealy-Miner
EMAIL ACTION NEEDED
On January 7th, 2011 in the town of Waxhaw, NC which is in Union County a preventable tragedy occurred when a young girl named Makayla was killed by two (neglected/abused) pit bulls (http://www.unioncountyweekly.com/news/2011/01/could-dog-attack-have-been-avoided-2/#comment-78 ).
TALKING POINTS
Waxhaw has NO ANIMAL CONTROL OFFICERS. Had Waxhaw had competent animal control officers in place this tragedy NEVER would have happened.
Union County Board of Commissioners initially approved to create a committee made up of experts in animal related fields (trainers, animal care experts, animal education experts as well as 501C3 rescue members) to guide the community regarding animal issues.
January 6th one day before this tragedy the Union Board of Commissioners decided this committee was not needed.
Union County Commissioner Jonathan Thomas is now calling for a ban or restrictions on “pit bulls”. Had their own ordinances such as 90.21 been enforced that allows for the removal of dogs based on the fact that they are running free this never would have happened!

Stop the Texas Dog Extermination! Immediate and Sustained Action Needed!
By Matt Miner and Sloane Quealy-Miner
Texas attorney Cynthia Stevens Kent (also a former state district judge) is pushing to have all dog breeds and mixes of breeds that fall under the term “pit bull” outlawed in Texas. The possession of a “pit bull” type dog would result in a third degree felony.
The first proposal would ban all “pit bull” type dogs in Texas, making it a felony to “own” one. This is, in a nutshell, a proposal to kill every single pit bull in Texas.
In case her first insidious proposal fails to pass Cynthia Kent has a second equally unjust proposal that also needs to be fought against as vigorously as the first.
The second proposal places unreasonable and unfair rules and restrictions on pit bull guardianship. These restrictions include making pit bull guardians carry expensive liability insurance, among other expensive requirements – seemingly intentionally discriminating against those in lower income brackets.
Either proposal will be a death warrant for thousands of dogs and will bring about a holocaust for pit bulls, the likes of which we have never seen. The streets of Texas will run red with the blood of these dogs.
At the bequest of Cynthia Kent the deadly duo of Senator Kevin Eltife and Representative Chuck Hopson will sponsor the bill and put it in front of the next legislative session.
ACTION NEEDED:
Contact the individuals below IMMEDIATELY and tell them you do NOT support any breed ban or any piece of breed specific legislation! Tell them you oppose both of Cynthia Kent's proposals and urge them to adopt "dangerous dog" laws that rightly target irresponsible owners and not an entire breed of dog.
The proposed pit bull holocaust in Texas must be stopped!
